Number 1 this week in 1981

On February 3, 1981, the UK music charts were topped by John Lennon’s song Woman.  Lennon, had been shot and murdered the previous December. Woman was the first song to be released after his death and was the second single  from his Double Fantasy album.  Woman stayed at number one in the UK charts for two weeks before being knocked off by a re-release of his own Imagine.

Over in the United States, the mood on the top of the charts was very different on this week in 1981. Blondie had reached the number one slot with Tide Is High.
